Department of Computer Science
Advisement
All Computer Science majors automatically are assigned advisors upon entry into the major. The relationship continues on a one-to-one basis until graduation. Advisement involves more than just course selection and Alternate PIN numbers. Advisors provide guidance and gauge the progress of advisees. Besides assisting in problem resolution, they open up opportunities in internship, student research, and other directions of professional growth. Their insight and tremendous wealth of knowledge and scholarship will augment, enhance, and refine students from every point in the academic spectrum.

Note to Students (Advisees):
No effort will be spared to guarantee student success. However, on some occasions where indicators are not evident, as telepathy is just beyond advisor qualifications, students should contact their advisors and express concerns, problems, interests, and questions. Don't wait till registration or until a problem is critical (often too late). Likewise, during summers and emergencies (when an advisor is ill, at a conference, etc.), consult the Chairperson, not as a substitute but a temporary, secondary resource under crisis.
Advisement Center:
At the university level, the Career Development and Gloria S. Williams Advisement Center provides a comprehensive program designed to assist students in making appropriate choices related to selecting a college major and ultimately defining their career goals. The center works in collaboration with the Computer Science Department to provide students with the essential tools needed to achieve academic and career success.
Academic Support:
In addition to professors offering their respective courses and faculty advisors to students, several institutional centers expand upon the classroom experience. Free mentoring and tutoring services are offered at three levels: department, college, and university.
